Teq Hotá [Ro-Idioms]



             Teq Hotá is a group of words with a meaning that is different from the meaning of all the individual words as Idiom of English. For deeper understanding or describing the speech or writting, Teq Hotá were play in important role in Rohingya Language. Rohingyas are used such things in Teq Hotá which found in their respectives  environment and nature.
           Teq Hotá, therefore, mostly used in Rohingya Kebbia (poem) and speaking rather than in writing. We itemized it in verious groups as parts of the body, nature, animals, etc....

1. Ámburaiyé
Ámburaiyé     = creeping
Idm meaning = give trouble to someone

The measurments of Rohingya ( Rohingyar Maf-Zúf)

Measurement : Balance concept of law and justice



 

ROHINGYAR MAF-ZÚF

Rohingyar Maf-Zúf means the methods of measurement of Rohingya People. The ancient Rohingyas had been used verious methods to measure the length, weight, time etc. we can distinguish the Rohingyas measurements into two methods as: 
(i) Ancient Rohingyas' Measurements,  
(ii) Modern Rohingyas' Measurements. 
They are described below. 

(I)     Ancient Rohingyas' Measurements


  1.  Lamba Maf  (Measurement of Length)


10  aál    =              1  fak
  5  fak    =              1  biñót
  2  biñót =              1  hát
  2  hát    =              1  gous
  2  gous  =              1  biyuñ
10  biyuñ =              1  daak
10  daak  =              1  baiñg
 8   baiñ=              1  baica
    • 1 aál is almost equal to 1 cm


2. Uzónor  Maf  (Measurement of Weight )

 

  4 sunni   =         1  cóçak
  4 cóçak  =          1  faba
  4 faba    =          1  cér
  4 cér      =          1  fai
10 fai       =          1  mon
10 mon    =          1  fala
    •   1 sunni is equal to one- thirty-two of 1 pound (lb).

3. Aláir Maf  (Measurement of Uncountable nouns)

 

     4 múth    =       1  foth
    4 foth       =       1   cér
    4 cer        =       1   fai
    4 fai         =       1   açí /Duor
    3 açí        =        1   mon
100 mon      =        1   gula
    •   Some grain or liquid put empty condensed milk Can  fill till the upper edge of it, is called 1 foth.


4. Fainná cizor Maf  (Measurement of Liquid)

 

    4 sunni     =      1   cóçak
  4 cóçak      =      1  faba
  4 faba        =      1  filañg
  5 filañg       =      1  gelém
50 gelém      =       1  dherém

1 filañg is equivalent to 1 litre. 

5. Woktór Maf  (Measurement of Times)



2  miríñg   =       1 túra
  4  túra    =        1 káana
10  káana  =        1 bizon
  4  bizon   =        1 khara
10  khara   =        1 góndhá
10  góndhá =       1 madán
  4  madan  =       1 diin
30  diin       =       1 san
12  san       =       1 bosór
    •  1 miçíñg is the time travel of our eyes rapidly closed one time.
    • 1 góndha is equal to nearly 40 mins.

6. Siyón cizor Maf  (Measurement of little things like gold..)

 

    2 ratti    =    1 foicá
   2 foicá      =     1 khaiñs
   2 khaiñs  =    1 ana
16 ana       =    1 tigóul
100 tigóul   =     1 víssá             

7. Zagar Maf  (Measurement of Area)

 

 wa-fatari 8 hát    =  1 hoçá
  30 hoçá         =      1 kuni
    4 kuni         =      1 khani
  12 khani       =       1 dun
100 dun          =      1 coçá

*1 khani is equivalent to 0.40 acre.

Remark:    : Above units and measurements had been used in the early century in Arakan. Nowaday, Rohingyas are used SI (system of international) units to measure length, weight and time. Some early units are also used today but some are not. Some are changed their names. The units  which marked in red colour are not used today.
