[Old Lay and Way to Home]

Old Lay and Way to Home

During 1991-92, when thousands and thousands of Rohingys were entering in to Bangladesh to escape persecution of Burmese military I was assigned to deal with these refugees by our party. At that time I was a member of Central Committee and Secretary for Organizing and Refugees Affairs of Arakan Rohingya Islamic Front (ARIF) later which emerged into the Arakan Rohingya National Organization (ARNO). At that time I was very much in tight schedules, receiving the refugees, bringing them to the temporary shelters, supplying them essential relief materials, dealing with Bangladesh authorities, BDR, Police, local public, Media etc... etc.. One day on my way to Cox’s Bazzar to Teknaf, I saw a old women sitting under a tree near the road. She was seen very tired and distressed. I offered her with water, juice and some biscuits. Although she did not say anything but I felt that she was thanking me from the bottom of her heart. That event was still in my memories. At that night when I arrived to the hotel I wrote a poem on her, which was published in our ARIF magazine with my pen name Abu Azad. Now I would like to share with this poem to all my FB friends with the photo of that old Rohingya lady to mark the International Women Day.
